Life's a Beach

Crunching our way across the shingle this morning over the dune to get to the sea. What is it about the sound of pebble on pebble under your boots? The very satisfying scrunch ... footstep after footstep to reach the shoreline where the sea was pounding in. Even the word scrunch is wonderfully descriptive.

The beach itself was fairly deserted apart from a couple of dog walkers - mile upon mile of breaking waves, shoreline and glorious surf - utterly gorgeous in the sunshine but with the ominous cloud gathering over the horizon that bode of showers to come, which they did all too quickly!

We were not alone..............! Up popped out of the water the head of a grey seal (seen here in the trough of a wave before it crashed over her) which we followed with the drift down the beach a little while; she was inquisitively sussing us out too.

I did like the solitariness of the windswept beach - the taste of salt in the air and the smell of the sea - magic!! Was enjoying the photo ops till the lens became covered in salt spray and the drizzle suddenly blew in. Time to head back to the car.
