Sublime to the Ridiculous

The statues in George Square are sharing space with all the fun of the fair over the Christmas season. Yesterday I pictured the happy skaters in the square. Today my eye was caught by the line of statues on the Square's west side. Nearest the camera is the former British prime minister Sir Robert Peel, then a young Queen Victoria on her horse and, just visible in the far distance her husband Prince Albert. Victoria actually opened the City Chambers on the east side of George Square, in 1888.

I liked all this pomp and circumstance cheek by jowl with fun on the helter skelter. Pity there was no one on it - and I couldn't wait. Maybe another time.
