Old labour

This seems to be turning in to a short series of people doing stuff. It wouldn't be autumn without the smell of burning leaves from somewhere. This was on the edge of Wisley Common this morning. We made the mistake of going to the Christmas Fair at RHS Wisley. At least there was something to see in the garden. I liked these squashes piled up in the shed by the vegetable plot.

When I worked as a reporter in the Labour team at the FT (when the FT had labour pages) I would enjoy the occasional lunch at the Gay Hussar, what the Guardian has called "the left's London canteen". You'd often find yourself munching alongside Michael Foot, Roy Hattersley or Keith Waterhouse in the good old days. But it wasn't patronised so much by New Labour and the place is up for sale. Good to see there are plans for a co-operative-style buy out.
