A young Red-Tailed Hawk in the Arcata Bottoms for my 700th entry today.

It was raptor rapture out there amongst the cows this morning; I found three hawk species, a kestrel, and a kite. One of the hawks was a lifer bird for me, which is a rare thing indeed these days: a light morph Ferruginous Hawk. The photo's not quite my best one today, otherwise I would have blipped it for sure. I've never seen this stunning species before (the largest North American hawk in fact!) and it's rare for our region so I was very happy to lay my eyes upon it.
