1963 Datsun Bluebird

Today Melbourne's weather once again did a U-turn and we ended up pretty warm, whether climate change or just because of Melbourne's natural weirdness, I don't know, but it's certainly variable (within a week we've had 36 degrees, then rain and hail - a night requiring the heating! - more rain, and now back to 26 degrees).

At least it keeps life interesting.

Gina, Miles and I went out into our new neighbourhood for brunch this morning - we ended up at a cafe in Seddon called 'little man', which (it transpired) had only been open since yesterday. It was pretty good and the decor was amazing, but I left hungry... the portion sizes were a bit on the 'posh' side. It's going to take us a while to replace our Fairfield fave 15 pounds!

After some more tidying of the house (Faye and Lewis are in Sydney this weekend... they certainly get about!), Damo arrived to go and pick up the generator for the park gig later in the day. This had all been loosely planned this morning, after his wife asked how he was going to tow the generator, seeing as their little Mazda doesn't have a tow ball. Typical Damo organisation right there. Things got worse when his phone packed in so he couldn't use google maps to find our new place, or indeed call anyone for help. Anyway, eventually (using a paper map ... imagine that!) he found me and we set off for the rental place, only to find that (1) it wasn't in the suburb that he thought it was in and (2) it had closed at 12pm, a full hour before we got there. This wasn't the best result, seeing as we were supposed to be set up and soundchecking on the other side of town in about an hour's time. Luckily a quick search found another rental place that was open, and we quickly grabbed a generator from there and then dutifully sat in Saturday afternoon traffic as we crossed the city.

No wonder I cycle everywhere... driving's horrific!

We finally made it, set up and started only 15 minutes late (which wasn't bad considering!). We played well without Nick, and once again the horns were great fun to have around. Unfortunately things were quashed a little but being on a raised stage with no shade whatsoever (thankfully Damo had some factor 50+ suncreen, so I've manage to avoid my regular 'lobster' colour), coupled with the fact that none of the punters seemed even vaguely interested in the fact that we were there. The organisers could have saved themselves a heap of cash and just had someone playing a CD through the PA for all of the attention we got. Not that we mind, mind, it's just the first gig that I've ever played with the Timbers where not a single person has done any dancing... not even the kids!

Never mind, we can't win them all, and we had fun anyway!

One of my highlights was getting a (free) coffee from The Farm Cafe's 1963 Datsun Bluebird coffee ute. It was a stunning car and in amazing condition. I had a chat with the owner and he's got some plans to fix it up a little, but overall it's already where you'd like it to be. He was happy for me to take some shots and I love these old car stereos.

Then it was home to Gina and we met another family who live on the street who are lovely - we're hoping to see them again soon for a cuppa!

Sometimes I wish that I couldn't touch type... my blips get a bit waffly, for which I apologise (if anyone's still reading!). See you tomorrow.
