And there was light!

A better day than yesterday and there was a lovely sunrise. In need of a break from writing (me) and log stacking (not me), we set off on the Penrith to Keswick road to find another Goldsworthy Sheepfold. We took the turn towards Mungrisdale and drove along the road below the Blencathra Fells.

We parked by the sign to Redmire Farm and set off down the farm track, looking for a stile. We were following some old directions and a sketch map and didn’t really know where we were going. In the end we decided to take a gate into a field. It felt right somehow. We trecked diagonally across a muddy field, trying to follow a faint path. By now it was clouding over and was getting quite cold.

We really had no idea where the fold was, but suddenly came to a wall and over the wall was this lovely circular fold. We climbed the stile and jumped down into the field. I climbed a banking to get a picture and suddenly the sun came from behind the clouds and lit the whole scene up. Quite magical!

Redmire Farm Fold, Mungrisdale, Keswick, recreated on an original site by Andy Goldsworthy and his team in February 1996. There is another fold further on, but we decided to leave that until another day.
