Morning Light

Preparations for the Grand Prix get-together began later than planned. This was the Canadian race, so TV coverage didn't begin until 5.00 pm, with the race kicking off at 6.00. Plenty of time, surely, especially if you're up and about at 10.00 am, it's a beautiful morning, and the sun is streaming into the house in great splendour. Well, not really. Recipes had to be checked, shopping lists prepared, napkins ironed, before heading out to the supermarket for provisions, both food and drink. Our ridiculous licensing laws in Ireland dictate that it is illegal to buy alcohol before 12.30 pm on a Sunday, so we timed the shopping trip accordingly.

What with one thing and another, it was close to 4.00 by the time we got back to the house and began food preparation. A bit of a mad rush, so, but all was in readiness when the first of the mini gang arrived. It turned out to be the best race of the season so far, incident packed, and including a horrendous high-speed crash involving Robert Kobica (we later heard he'd got away relatively unscathed), the food was a great success, the drink flowed, the atmosphere was top-notch. All in all, pretty much a perfect day.
