Wet and muddy New Year's walk

After a quiet but enjoyable New Year's eve, we set off in the drizzle to have a walk in Swinley Forest. It was very quiet when we arrived; only a few dog walkers and a few mad runners. We put our boots and waterproofs on and headed off on the Nature walk trail. It was pretty soggy underfoot with some large muddy areas but not cold. Nice to be out for some fresh air despite the horrible weather.

The walk wasn't well signposted and then, due to an enforced diversion (closed path with no diversion given!), we got a bit lost. Given that conifer forest paths all look very similar, we had to resort to Google maps to get us heading in the right direction. We were further from the car park than we thought and the rain and wind were getting stronger. We eventually made it back to the car but were pretty soggy and mud splattered.

Back home for home-made soup and a lazy afternoon before the hard task of surviving January gets underway tomorrow.
