At Home Lacy: The Wye, burst again in 2014.....x

Flooding can be deceptively peaceful and serene sight. What is doesn't reveal is the change in jet stream that causes this rainfall and continued loss to winter grazing and crops. Two days into the New Year and we are under water... again.

Our county, Herefordshire just cant take any more rain. The water table filled to breaking point two years ago. Every rain fall since has merely kept the overfilled water table topped up. The fields surrounding our house are already looking more saturated than two years ago, great circular lakes appearing out of no where. The worrying sight is that these fields are no where near the rivers edge. These lakes are appearing even on higher ground. Yes other fields will be running on to these, but every field is saturated and cannot drain freely into the next.

Tonight, the high tide will have the biggest impact on already burst banks and filled fields. To make that worse, Herefordshire will also suffer further rainfall and also suffer from the run off from the welsh hills.

This is not the kind of New Year that Herefordshire was hoping for. Let, the rains come and go, and 2014 be a year that the jet stream moves on....x
