Junipers in the dark

I don't especially like juniper, unless it's in gin, and this is the wrong type for that. However, even I will admit that it looks pretty good in the dark. I know that this juniper will have to go, too, but I have yet to decide what will replace it. There are a couple of ferns that I want for a thin edge in front of the house. Much of this juniper is in shade and any shrubbery that goes in as a replacement will have to tolerate that AND be attractive. Something that blossoms would be an added benefit. Just one word for that...Research!
