Gibraltar Rock and Omahu Bush Panorama

After a quick trip into town for supplies (potting mix, irrigation fittings and oh, a new Lowepro Flipside backpack) I returned home via the summit road for a change. I noticed on the trip into town that the skies were full of fluffy clouds, so it seemed ideal conditions for far reaching vistas from the Port Hills in all directions.

I settled for the South-Westerly aspect, so here's the view over Gibraltar Rock and Omahu Bush, out across the plains towards Lake Ellesmere/Te Waihora and the Alps. There are tracks leading down from the Summit Rd and through the native forest remnants. You can find out more on the OpenSpace website. In the meantime, go large to see what's down there.

This shot is a stitched 5 shot panorama. To get the elevated aspect, I shot this standing up through the sunroof in the truck, balancing the Gorillapod between the open roof and the windscreen. Again, thanks to the D800E's huge resolution this would print to 1.85m wide at 200dpi. I'm still short of wallspace...

Another day at the bay tomorrow, so steel yourself for some more seascapes...
