The Lion Bridge of North Point Lighthouse

What a great day today!! The sun's shining, the sky is blue, & alto' it's still only 6 degrees, it looks beautiful outside!! After breakfast my husband & I decided to drive to North Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1888 & is located on the East side of Milwaukee in Lake Park. It's a beautiful spot, as it sits back on a high bluff that overlooks Lake Michigan. Between the lighthouse & the edge of the bluff are 2 large, deep ravines. In 1896 it was decided by the park commision to build 2 footbridges, one over each ravine, to join the north & south portions of the park. Between the bridges is a small courtyard that's bounded by pedastels that hold old iron chains, & the courtyard joins the footbridges on either side. The bridges were designed by Oscar Sanne, & are very decorative! Each end of each footbridge is "guarded" by 2 Lions, hence they became known as the North and South Lion Bridges. I took lots of pictures of the lighthouse, the footbridges & even the old chain, & I've put some of them in my blipfolio, but I really liked this one of the lion, guarding the entrance to the bridge, with the lighthouse in the background.
