Rum Punch

The Lonely Planet guide advised Pigeon Island as a lovely unspoilt free public beach at the north end of St Lucia.

Unfortunately the travel guide forgot to mention what happens when 3 cruise ships arrive for the day.
Today 10,000 of us (horror! cringe!) descended on this tropical island and its infrastructure got stretched to the limits.

By the time we got to Pigeon Island it was full.
We paid a few dollars extra and moved into the nature reserve, a national trust property, next door with its own tiny beach.

You could literally touch the person on the next sun lounger to you (do you really want to be holding hands with strangers on holiday?)
Anyway swimming in the sea made up for it.
And the arrival of this floating bar manned by two enterprising young Caribbeans with their calypso music brought a party atmosphere to the beach.

Their piece de resistance was the wielding of machetes to decapitate each coconut head before filling it up with rum.
