Up the mountain

Today a small group of us went up to the Mountain Railway station on Cairngorm mountain, hoping to be able to take the mountain railway to the top station. However there were 80 mph winds at the summit and the railway was not running.

There is more snow there than at the winter Olympics in Russia, but in Scotland snow is often accompanied by high winds which makes it impossible to ski.  The bottom station car park is 2,000 feet above sea level, so we were up quite a height, but because it was snowing and very very windy we didn't have the views that we should have had looking down to Loch Morlich.  However, my memory is good!

We then went down to Aviemore and had a wander around and a bit of lunch before meeting the rest of our party at the Woodshed Bar at Coylumbridge, then back to the hotel in Newtonmore for a wee rest before dinner and more dancing.
