Day Two of the Alternative Olympic Games

Before I get started on the coverage of the AOG, can I just say that the Opening Ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi was just phenomenal!! I have a friend who is over there right now and I can't wait to talk to her when she gets back to find out what it was like to be in the stadium for that amazing show. wow.

And now to today's AOG coverage...

The Pairs Flying trials started today with Team Junco really putting on a great show...until a fight broke out between two of their star athletes. Things quickly spun out of control and sanctions are being discussed... In the Flying Singles, however, Team Junco put on a good showing. And, when the competition was done, the captain of Team Junco even took a bow! While the representative from Team Song Sparrow gave everyone the stink-eye.

In a shocking upset, TeePee from Team American Tree Sparrow scored a goal in seed hockey - check out that form, people!! The whole sparrow contingent were so excited that some spontaneous flying broke out in Team White-Throated Sparrow. It was good to see such good team spirit, especially after that junco debacle this morning...

In the first round of Yard Hockey, Ursula from Team Wild Turkey busted some fancy moves, nearly tipping over before she regained her balance, and her composure, and ran off into the woods gobbling.

One of the grackles snuck off to the bar and was busting a move on the dance floor while one of his team-mates worked hard on her aerial ballet routine, hoping for a medal.

And thank goodness security was on alert! Just as the contestants were all taking a lunch break, one of the members of Team Accipiter zoomed in for a sneak attack. Contestants flew in every direction and Coop left before any blood was shed. Whew.

In the midst of all the excitement, one of the members of Team Squirrel left the field unexpectedly and scampered off to collect bundles of nesting material. Apparently she's in the "womanly way." Can a brood of tiny future Olympians be far behind?

And speaking of tiny things... hubs and I went to a local farm to buy some cracked corn (for the Olympians) and when we came out one of their sheep has just given birth to a tiny lamb! She was still licking it clean while it tried to stand in the snow on it's wobbly little legs. I would have stayed for hours watching it, but hubs was feeling queasy (newborn lambs are kind of a mess) so we left...

I'm hoping the BlipCentral gets the Search function up and running soon so I can find all the AOG-tagged photos! In the meantime, if you'd like to post your links here under comments, I'd love to see them. I am so enjoying seeing the Olympic spirit from all over the world. Hey, we've got emus, swans, geese, squirrels, spiders and lots of other cools things putting in appearances here on Blip during the Alternative Olympic Games!

Stay tuned for tomorrow's updates...
