Renewing baptismal vows

Rather belatedly (and no, it wasn't the bishop's fault that I was laid up for days following this event), here's my blip for Sunday's visit from Bishop Kevin, seen here blessing the water in the font before soaking everyone in the church liberally as he blessed the congregation and the church itself after the restoration works. The lights were extinguished for the sermon - the lectionary reading was the gospel about not putting your light under a bushel - and for the subsequent procession to the font, and everyone had a candle as we stood round so that the church was warmly lit. (OK: the red radiant wall heaters added to it, but it was jolly good nonetheless.)

Actually the whole event was a joy - and for anyone from another tradition reading this and wondering about the cloth of gold and the mitre and the robes, can I just say that though they do add mystery and drama, we manage to achieve a great deal of laughter and good, old-fashioned fun when it's appropriate - as when some of us got more soaked than sprinkled.

And then there was lunch, also in the church. A good day indeed.
