Hello...

... and welcome.

A bright, sunny break in the stormy weather, and very little wind in the earlier part of the day. According to this weather vane, what wind there was came from the south-west.

Many of you will recognise the "Hello" sign from a well known chain of supermarkets, but the unusual weather vane on top of this one indicates the location - right next to the film and television studios at Elstree in Hertfordshire. The studios are the home of popular television series like Dancing on Ice and Who Wants To Be a Millionaire (I am happy to ignore Big Brother) as well as major cinema successes including Star Wars, Indiana Jones, The Shining and The King's Speech. It has a long history of successful movie making, stretching back to the 1920s when Alfred Hitchcock filmed the first "British Talking Movie" - Blackmail.

No wonder the studios like to refer to themselves as the "British Hollywood".
