February Crocuses

For four hours this morning we had an impossibly deep blue sky stretching as far as the eye could see.
It would not have looked out of place above the Greek Islands in midsummer.
The temperature however did not match the colour of the sky and our morning walk to the canal into the west wind was perishing.

As though to remind us not to take things too much for granted, the sky has now collected a motley collection of clouds, although we still have the sun streaming through the windows; a total transformation from the gloom of yesterday.

These little white crocuses I planted three years ago, and they are fortunate indeed to have escaped the attention of the resident squirrel.
All week they have been tightly shut against the rain, but they felt joyous enough this morning to open up and turn their faces to the sun, even though from time to time they seemed to shiver as a gust of cold wind swept through.

I see a little beastie in the top crocus sunbathing.
