Charterhouse

I went to a good school, but in no way could it compare with this amazing establishment. Charterhouse is one of England's top public schools and is housed in beautiful buildings and grounds near Godalming in Surrey. The school moved out of London in 1872 to a complete set of new buildings. This view is of the cloisters to the former chapel, and close to this spot there is C18 stonework from the old buildings containing beautifully lettered schoolboy carving of the 1780s and 1790s. On a bright day the sunshine struck warmly on the yellow Bargate stone.
We were at Charterhouse for the Godalming Music Festival in which Normous' choir was competing. There were only two choirs competing in their section but they had a good adjudication, scored better than the other choir and retained the cup that they won last year. It was worth all the hard work!
