We're not in Kansas any more

It couldn't be more different! Today we packed up and headed off to Riumar. We've got quite efficient now, it only took us an hour to load the car and we were here by three. We were thrilled, while poor Mystère has spent several hours creeping around the house looking terrified. He's now worn himself out with stress and gone to sleep on the bed.

We did a vague bit of unpacking and then went out for a quick walk -- we didn't really look around much at all when we were here before. I found it quite exciting ... when S lived in Orkney he had a cottage practically on the beach, but I've never lived so close to the sea. The beach! The dunes! The huge sky!

Heading up the beach, we found that apart from the little perch we saw last time, there is an actual hide among the dunes. It was getting a bit late and the light was going, but there were still a couple of people in there with tripods and giant lenses like bazookas. Bliptastic! I think I'm going to need a longer lens though ... Go large and you can just about see the flamingos -- I liked the way the light was catching them.

Walking back, we found the chiringuito (beach bar) at the end of our road was still open, so we stopped for a beer. Life's a beach indeed! It's only open at weekends at present, but the woman behind the bar told us they'd be open every day from March.
