When I first encountered Miah, he was uncertain what I was asking him. After he understood he declined, simply shaking his head. I decided to persevere and try another tact, and started speaking to him in Urdu/Hindi. I started by asking him where he was from and went from there.

After I had been talking to him for a while, and he had got to know some things about me (and the project), I asked again and he nodded politely.

During the shoot he stood dead still and very serious, something which I did not see during my conversation with him. Maybe he wanted to convey a different person in the photo...?
