Sea Fever


I must go down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied:

Sennen harbour this afternoon.

We went here after a superb lunch at the Tolcarne Inn in Newlyn.
This is an inn with a small restaurant specialising in fish.
The chef Ben Tunnicliffe, who gained a Michelin Star a few years ago, decided he wanted to buy a place of his own, and bought this Inn in 2012.
Going back to cooking good food, locally sourced, and cooked with love. ( and not too fancy)
The menu is chalked up on a blackboard, and changes every day.
4 starters and 4 mains. All fish bought at the market a few yards away.

We had a delicious fish soup with Rouille and crostini.
Followed by Pan fried fillet of Hake, celeriac, smoked bacon, silverskin onions and parsley.
To share a vanilla rice pudding and honey roast pears.
A perfectly cooked meal.

Will be back next week!

We had a very brief visit to Botallack, but the wind was so strong we decided not to do the cliff walk down to the ruins of the tin mines, as I found it difficult to stand up, and was afraid of being blown over! ( the first time I have ever felt like that)

However the visit to Sennen Cove made up for it. Although it was windy is wasn't quite as bad.
Lovely sun most of the day except for one heavy shower with hail during the morning.
( just happened at coffee time, so took shelter in a café!)

Back " home" now, with a nice cup of tea.
Another lovely day.
