A time for everything

Evening at the hotel

Monday
A really early start this morning, leaving the house at about 4.20am to get to Paris Orly airport for a 7.40 flight to Madrid where we had a connecting flight on to Lanzarote. Check-in was extremely slow and inefficient, so it's a good job we had allowed enough leeway. However, eventually we were on our way, arriving in Lanzarote at about 1 pm. For any of my readers who are not familiar with Lanzarote, it is a Spanish island, the easternmost of the Canary Islands, about 125 km off the west coast of Africa. We had some great views over the northern part of the island as we were descending, and it's neighboring small island of La Graciosa. It was a fairly short taxi ride to our hotel in the southeastern part of the island, adjacent to Puerto Calero, near Puerto del Carmen. Our room wasn't ready yet, so after a welcoming drink, we went to the pool bar and had a bit of lunch. After we got settled into our room, we went and relaxed and read by the pool for a few hours. Roger was brave and went for a swim, but I declined - the water was really cold! In the evening we walked into Puerto Calero along the coastal promenade. It was quite a chilly breezy walk, as the temperatures really take quite a dive once the sun goes down. Then it was straight back to the hotel for an early night!
