Fuliginous Cathedral

Took the kids into town today, as we were driving past Glasgow Cathedral I noticed how wonderfully fuliginous it was looking! Decided we'd take a wander there after the business of fabric buying (unsuccessful). The kids also spotted St. Mungo's Museum of Religious Life and Art and wanted to go in. It is a lovely building and we enjoyed a wander and some lunch in the cafe too. I like it as it portrays all the main religions and is a very calm place, despite not being a place of worship (apart from to art perhaps!). In fact I'm not at all religious but still find it interesting.
Just behind the museum is Glasgow Cathedral, quite a stunning building, inside and out. It is a medieval building and one of the few to survive the reformation almost intact. The stonework on the outside is still very black and sooty (fuliginous) from industrial pollution, as most old sandstone building were in Glasgow once upon a time.
We had a wander inside, luckily for us a choir were practising, really enhancing the whole atmosphere. If you are in Glasgow, I'd definitely suggest a visit, and photographs are allowed :-)
It will be a catch up of Salamander tonight once hubband gets back from Aberdeen shortly.
Ciao
