Desuetude

des·ue·tude

[des-wi-tood, -tyood]
noun
the state of being no longer used or practiced.

A couple of weeks ago, I took a former blipper and old school friend who had come from England for a short visit to this amazing hulk in the nearby town of Millbrook, NY because I knew he would enjoy photographing it.  I also made a mental note to return there for today's challenge, because it is the perfect example of desuetude.

Built in 1893 as a luxury hotel, it then became a women's college in 1907.  Bennett College went bankrupt and closed in the early 1970's.  This building, known as Halcyon Hall was abandoned, and suffered major water damage after the pipes froze and burst.  As you can see, it continues to collapse, even though it was scheduled for demolition in 2012.
