Going back is not always a good idea

This was the Abbey Wood City Learning Centre in Greenwich. It's now been converted into a school and extended by the addition of a 2 story block at the back.

I moved to Greenwich in 2000 to manage their City Learning Centre Scheme which included managing the design, building, equipping of two Centres. Abbey Wood was the second Centre and was a new build, the architect creating a building that I was designed to my specification. What an honour and privilege to be able to be part if creating a building which would leave a legacy.

City Learning Centres were part of the last Labour Government's initiative to regenerate inner city areas. They were ICT centres having cutting edge ICT resources for schools and the local community.

But the end of the Labour Government and the resultant cuts to local authority funds these expensive resources, so they were closed across the country. Out of 104 in the country few remain. This building stood empty for a couple if years before being converted to a school. Pleased it is being put to good use. Shame so much money wasted over a decade, with all that expertise and resource thrown away.
