Getting Smart

His Lordship and I are getting smarter all the time, certainly since we were young enough to fit our posteriors on chairs like these. You could say we are bucking the trend of the ageing process.

We have ordered a Smart television that will not only allow us to watch a multitude of useless television programmes, but will connect us to the Internet, allowing us, amongst other things, the bonus of seeing our family, dispersed over the globe, larger than life and twice as ugly on Skype.

When I was small enough to fit one of these little chairs, there were no televisions at all. I was as happy as sand girl with a family wireless, not a modern radio or even a tuner.
Should I want to see the news in black and white on a screen, I could pay to do so in the Monseigneur News Cinema at the west end of Princes Street.
Heady stuff, with the announcers speaking in that funny cut glass accent adopted in those days.

Our family's first television was bought in 1955 with 2 channels which were only transmitted between certain hours, and in B&W.
At the end of the night's broadcasting, the National Anthem was played and I'm sure some of the older generation would have thought fit to stand for it.

Changed days indeed with 24/7 transmission and a host of channels available with no need for the National Anthem.

HL and I are intent on keeping up with the younger generation, even though we might have to have a savvy 8 year old grandson help us understand what we can do with the new machine, although I'm pretty certain it won't dust or make us tea in bed.
