A day of culture in Glasgow.

A bright and breezy day as we set off for the West End on the 'clockwork orange'.

First stop was Glasgow university and the Hunterian Art Gallery. A fantastic reproduction of The Mackintosh House was the highlight. The original lived in by Mackintosh and his wife Margaret MacDonald until 1914 was just 100 metres away. All his adaptations and furniture were maintained when he left and the subsequent owners gave it to the university. Sadly in the '60s the house had to be demolished due to mining subsidence so it was recreated at the exact same orientation and elevation as the original complete with original windows and features.

Across the road in the main university building is the Hunterian Museum. Fantastic building entered through these arches. We had coffee with the students and felt like the clock had been turned back seeing the rooms ready for student exams!

A short walk across Kelvin Park our next stop was the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery. We had lunch after hearing the end of an organ recital of 'I belong to Glasgow'!

Lots to see again; some interiors from Mackintosh's 4 tea rooms in the city and best of all Dali's 'Christ of St. John and the Cross' commissioned by Glasgow in 1951.

A walk back into town for a much needed drink as I had sprained my ankle last night falling over a sunken manhole.
I was not drunk, honestly!
