Manchester's Sitting Room...

It's been a big day for Manchester today. After four years of work and at a cost of £50,000,000, Manchester's Central Library has been restored to us. The people who run this great cultural institution in one of Manchester's most distinctive and iconic buildings want us to treat it as the city's sitting room.

Apparently, as it was in 2010, only 30% of the building was open to the public and it felt huge then. Now 70% of the building is open to us to explore including the new extension under Library Walk into the Town Hall Extension next door.

This picture is of the stained glass, Shakespeare window that overlooks the impressive entrance on to St. Peter's Square. Characters from his plays are featured in the panels.

If you want to treat it as Manchester's sitting room, the comfortable chairs are ready and waiting. Next time you are in the city, make time to have a look around...
