Broad-billed Hummingbird

catching up on some of my blips...

The hummers have begun their migration north from Mexico and other points south.  This brightly colored Broad-billed is aptly named.  Its bill is wide and flat.

Compare it with the bill of the Anna's Hummingbird from the other day, or even Zippy, who is a Costa's Hummingbird.

Getting to know more about all the different species is fun.  I'm on a pretty steep learning curve but I have three books to help me. I've discovered that's what "true" birders  use.  Internet?  Forgetaboutit!
