Erythronium Pagoda, the Dog's Tooth Violet

" To be sane in a mad time is bad for the brain, worse for the heart."
Wendell Berry

Another morning gardening with George in the warm sun. It is very encouraging to work alongside someone who is energetic and on the same wavelength. I didn't want him to overdo it though so we stopped and had coffee halfway through.
I have bought some CDs from Sounds True including a series on Buddhist Psychology by Jack Kornfield. I like him. He is talking about the sort of troubles in the world and in ourselves that bring us unhappiness. In the process he introduced me to the American poet, farmer and activist Wendell Berry. He sounds a very wise man and also has a sense of humour, a good combination. I am going to find out more about him.

Meanwhile these fine yellow plants are quietly growing away in a semi shaded spot on the north side of the house. They are a joy every spring and are gradually increasing in number. A yellow violet, whatever next.
