Rhododendron 'Loderi King George'

From the petite trusses of R. racemosum yesterday to the first of the giant flowers of Loderi King George today. This regal shrub has huge flowers. We have several planted along the pond edge. The white flowers that emerge from enormous deep pink buds, are not only impressive in size, but unlike most rhododendrons, are also scented with a sweet fragrance that wafts along the gravel path for a long way. This is NOT the best shrub for a small garden; the one at Caerhays castle on the Cornish coast is 25 feet tall and as wide. Ours are nowhere NEAR that size, but they are substantial next to the typical rhododendron.
