Border crossing, Nicaragua-style

Day 10 of our tour of Costa Rica & Nicaragua was a long one, spent mostly travelling. It was a long drive from Monteverde before we reached the Pan-American Highway and then it was a further long-haul north until the border crossing at Peñas Blancas.

Diplomatic relations between Costa Rica and its northern neighbour are strained, to say the least, and we had been warned that the border crossing might take some time while all the paperwork was sorted out. There is not a lot to see or do at the Peñas Blancas border crossing for the tourist but, as it happens, we weren't delayed too long.

While we were waiting, however, this herd of goats wandered nonchalantly across the coach park, although I would have been surprised if they had crossed the border without the correct documentation (in triplicate).
