Grandad's Hot Cross Buns

Grandad was the village baker. His bread, cakes etc. were wonderful (and it's not family prejudice speaking!) When we were children my brother and I used to love going into the bakehouse to watch him work and be given samples of course.
He made delicious hot cross buns and before they went on sale he used to bring a bag of buns home for us to test that the spice was right. It always was, but it became a family tradition for us to to sample them. In those days hot cross buns were only on sale in the lead up to Good Friday and something to look forward to unlike today when they can be bought all year round.
The bun in the photo is not baked by me I'm afraid!
