Yew Tree Cottage: Buildings of Bearsted No6

A much quieter day today now tht everyone has gone home. And the weather has changed too; cloudy, wet and windy, but we had good weather while Barbara and David were here, so that was good.

Did a few chores in the morning, checking out tickets and making arrangements for this evening and then an early lunch (as we were having an early tea).

Time then to cook the dinner for tonight and do the shopping online before going out for a walk in the rain. Had we been able to wait until 6.00pm we'd have been able to walk in the sun, as it was we were wearing full wet weather gear.

In the evening we went to see Feast of Fiddles - 7 of the best folk fiddlers in the country backed by 6 excellent musicians - now on their 21st annual tour. They play an eclectic range of music from the traditional folk and Celtic to arrangements of modern day tunes and songs. You've missed them this year as tonight was their last night.

Today's shot was really the only opportunity of the whole day (didn't take camera to the concert) and even this was taken inbetween heavy bursts of rain.

This is what the British Listed Buildings have to say on the house:

A Late C15 or early C16 house. Timber framed with plaster infilling, some areas completely plastered. Plain tile roof.

Wealden house of 4-timber-framed bays including 2 open hall bays of about equal length. 2 storeys on stone plinth with cellar at right end. First floor of right and left end bays jettied on brackets. On first floor, left bay of hall has one tension brace either side of a central stud. Widely spaced studs in right bay of hall. Plastered coving from recessed hall to flying wall-plate, which is also braced from the end bays.

Hipped roof with gablet at left end and stack off-centre to left in front slope of roof. Projecting stack at right end.

Irregular fenestration of one 2-light sliding casement in left bay, one 3-light sliding casement in right bay of hall, and one 2-light ordinary casement in right bay. Arched door head at left end of left hall bay. C20 plank door.
