Black-Headed Gull - Territorial Display - Freiston

And so our time in Lincolnshire once again comes to an end. It was a shorter visit than in recent times, so it feels like we have been here no time at all to be honest.

I managed one quick visit down to Freiston Shore this morning. I has hoping the Black-Headed Gull colony was in full swing, as is the one at Frampton, but they are only just getting started at Freiston. I still managed to capture this wonderful bit of behaviour.

Black-Headed Gulls have the most wonderful courtship displays. A wonderful head bowing gesture, and a whole load of noise. This male was holding court outside the hide for quite some time. He was seeing off all interlopers and trying his luck with every female that ventured near. It was a wonderful end to four days of wonderful wildlife watching. I hope you've enjoyed the photos. It's back to inanimate object again from tomorrow!
