Stormy day, Coll Pier

I woke up at 4.00 o'clock this morning with a car alarm blaring outside my hotel bedroom window in Tiree. That got sorted quickly enough but then the sound of the rising wind kept me awake until first light.

By the time I had finished my meeting at An Talla with the Tiree Transport Group, Cal Mac and local Councillor Roddie McCuish the wind was at its height and although I have crossed the Minch in much worse ( a force 10 on one occasion) I was a little doubtful as to whether the ferry would arrive and leave Tiree at lunchtime as scheduled.

However it did and although there were a few bumps on the four hour trip back to Oban most of the sailing was quite comfortable. But I did go outside when we arrived at Coll for a brief stop in order to take a few pictures of the angry sea , the grey skies and this bright windsock on the end of the pier.

(You can also view large - but not if you get seasick.)
