Sunflower and Oranges

Lessons learned from living the country life:

1. Even if you have a garbage disposal, don't use it! The pipe between the washing machine and the septic system will clog up, causing the sink to back up and water to run out from under the washing machine. We're waiting for the plumber to come. Of course we're expecting neighbors for dinner. Cindy will bring her own Cosmos in her own "sippy cup", Bruce and OilMan will drink beer and I will have wine.*

2. If you decide to have a compost pile:
a. put a fence around it so the dumb dog doesn't give himself colitis eating garbage.
b. if you don't want kale coming up in every corner of the yard, don't put it in the compost once it has gone to seed.

3. Don't put sunflowers in the compost. Sunflower seeds turn into sunflowers. Big ones. The birds not only like the seeds in the bird feeder, they like the leaves on the plant. If you look at today's picture, you can see where the goldfinches have nibbled on the base of the leaves between the veins.

4. Our cell phones aren't very reliable because we're out of cell phone range. Our land line and internet are unreliable for reasons unknown. Could it possibly be because the cable itself is lying on top of the ground? The fact that we've called this to their attention several times is not encouraging. We're waiting for the cable guy to come.
