Sparking

Our first day at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium for the 2nd round of the World Endurance Championship. As the circuit is in the Ardennes it is known for it's variable weather conditions. It rained all the way down to the circuit, but it was fine when we arrived, although the rain soon caught up with us, so we spent about the 1st hour in the grandstand sheltering before we ventured out into the forest to watch track side.

Spa is an awesome circuit to watch the cars on, there are so many fast corners, and so much elevation change, so different to Silverstone which is just so flat.

One of the greatest corners in world motorsport is Eau Rouge where the cars race down hill into a compression before launching up hill to the sky through a kink.

Throughout practice we noticed that the Porsche 919 prototypes seemed to be catching the track in the compression and sending a shower of sparks into the air, reminiscent of 1980's F1 cars. I managed to capture this event when the no 20 Porsche launched through Eau Rouge. An awesome day that culminated in a thrilling qualifying session in late evening where drivers were trading times to set pole position, which ultimately went to the sister Porsche 919.
