Chaffinch

I have been trying to photograph this chap for a while. I can sit outside within feet of the bird feeder and all sorts will visit, but the minute the camera lens comes out, off they go. Today I had more success, and it was this or a snail.

JJ has a Nikon D90 and would like to purchase a macro lens for it and perhaps a telephoto type thingy as well. We would appreciate any suggestions you can offer please.
