Midnight

The moon was almost full (99%) so I took that part of the image just after midnight. Then, when I got home this afternoon I made the Midnight Cake from a recipe I found on the internet. It was a very runny mixture and is a very moist cake and so quite heavy but looks the part. I'll await hubby's judgement on the eating and let you all know!

So a Midnight Cake and Moon!

Midnight is the transition time period from one day to the next: the moment when the date changes. In ancient Roman timekeeping, midnight was halfway between sunset and sunrise, varying according to the seasons
Idiom: to burn the midnight oil, (to study or work far into the night) First Known Use of MIDNIGHT is before the 12th century.
Interesting example of metaphor relating to theology: it is searching in a dark cellar at midnight for a black cat that isn't there.

Recipe: Midnight Cake
1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
2&1/2 cups sugar
4 eggs, separated
1 cup cocoa
2 cups boiling water
3 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla

Directions:
1 Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2 Cream butter and sugar.
3 Add eggs one at a time, first yolks then whites.
4 Mix cocoa with water.
5 Sift dry ingredients together.
6 Add flour mixture with cocoa mixture, stir in vanilla.
7 Bake at 350 degrees for 20- 30 minutes, makes three layers or 45 minutes for bundt cake(I don't know what that is) .
I found in two layers it took about 35 minutes.
