But, then again . . . . .

The Bass Rock.

Prodigal Jnr returned home in the small hours of this morning having spent almost a year travelling around the world, only to come back again. His passion is seeing rare and exotic forms of wildlife and shooting it - with a camera. Having gained a degree in business management and spent most of his life (up to the age of 21) following a successful sporting career, he now sees his future being spent preserving our world's natural history. It's difficult to find fault with his current ambition.

Having been his taxi driver until three in the morning, I managed to wake up in time to lead today’s cycle run to Seacliff, which went surprisingly well. The weather was fantastic, as were the views of both Tantallon Castle and the Bass Rock. I chose this picture for the blip today, not because it was the best of the day but because it shows (at least, the original does) the vast number of birds that inhabit the rock at this time of the year. Each white spot on the rock itself, and on in the sky around it, is a gannet; I’m not going to consider trying to count them, Wikipedia suggests a population of 150,000.
Lunch time was spent happily watching them diving for fish, unfortunately there wasn’t time to photograph them as we had a long ride to reach a coffee shop before it closed.
