Sialis sp.

I was in the bird hide waiting for something interesting to happen . . .

. . . and as you can tell from my blip, nothing did.

Several young birds now about:
3 moorhen chicks
9 mallard ducklings and two cygnets

Three coots on nests that I can see are all still sitting tight as is the great-crested grebe.

Two herons were hanging around - I hope they aren't eyeing up the youngsters.

In case you haven't recognised it, the insect on my finger is a harmless Alder Fly (most likely Sialis lutaria)
