Early Start

Fancying an early start in the sunshine today, I planned yesterday to leave the house at 5.30am to go up Whernside today. (This is definitely not the norm!) The forecast was pretty good and there was talk of mist in the valleys at home.

Liz, Bessie and Oscar joined me. The journey over was breathtaking. The mist was indeed in the valleys and the light was exquisite. As we arrived at Whernside, however, there were droplets of rain on the windscreen! Blue sky was around though, so we were hopeful.

It's quite some time since I walked up Whernside and it was thoroughly enjoyable despite being a little cloudy. The sun broke out about half way up and we enjoyed plenty of sunshine before the mist, true to form, closed back in on the top plateau. Fifty metres from the summit, the cloud suddenly separated away from the top and we enjoyed beautiful views all around.

This chap bivvying on the summit, enjoying a cup of tea, was more than a little surprised when we rolled up at just after 8.

We decided that Crack of Dawn Adventure needs repeating somewhere new and regularly.
