Autumn Leaf

Tired of bird blips? Ha!

This little leaf (4.5 cm x 4.5 cm) blew up in front of my front door this morning. I looked on every page in my Trees of Arizona Field Guide and couldn't find one that was this shape that was described or looked like this color. At least at this time of year.

The closest match I could find was the Quaking Aspen, native to our state but the most widely distributed tree in North America. It is extremely hardy, especially in the cold, and is usually found in higher elevations.

The only thing I could figure was that this leaf was a remnant of the fall, perhaps blown in from the desert during our very high winds of late, and gently found it's way to my door.
