A different selection

Tonight's YES meeting was in Taynuilt and I was speaking alongside three people with whom I had never before shared a platform though I knew them all from other contacts.

Graham Pagan is a retired lawyer from Oban, a former Procurator Fiscal in the town, a liberal activist in the best sense of those words ( he is a keen campaigner for the Palestinian cause ) and a former Liberal Party member .

Mary Anne Kennedy is a Glasgow Gael living in Lochaber , singer, musician, radio and TV presenter , music producer and cultural campaigner who is well known throughout Scotland and further afield.

Arthur Cormack who is from Skye was a Mod Gold Medallist at 18, has been Chair of Bord Na Gaidhlig, and a member of the Scottish Arts Council, is a musician and cultural entrepreneur and was one of the prime forces behind the Highland Alliance which stood in the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999.

The chair of the meeting was Kathryn Wilkie who is a wonderful music teacher now working as a QIO for Argyll & Bute Council . She is also a leading light in YES Oban.

It was a good relaxed meeting with home baking prepared by some local supporters and the journey home in the still , fading light of a early summer evening was inspiring.

Culture, debate, positive politics and the Argyll landscape. Who could ask for more on a Friday night ?
