International Orange

The Golden Gate bridge in san Francisco bay was designed by the engineer Joseph Strauss. He wanted the bridge to stand out from the usual grey bridges of the time and rather liked the colour of the metal primer used on the steel.

He tweaked this colour and after long debates, it was accepted as the colour for the bridge and was called International Orange.

Today it is closest to Pantone 180 as a colour. Variations on International Orange are widely used in the aerospace industry.

With great sadness, we fly home to the UK today.

Once again, many thanks for all your views and comments which have greatly added to the enjoyment of our trip which has been spectacular.
