Weeping Angel

This weekend we were delighted to have the Galloway Artisans install their work here at Mackintosh Queen's Cross.

This is a unique opportunity for Glasgow to enjoy and purchase the works of artists and makers based in the Galloway region of South West Scotland.

We have a special evening on Thursday at 6pm with music and refreshments. So please drop in, as we would love to see you.

Just before I was leaving this evening I noticed the reflection of the Blue Heart Window in this work by Lou McGill. Wings of Desire is inspired by the film by Wim Wenders in 1987 and the follow-up Faraway, So Close in 1993 after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The film is about invisible, immortal angels who listen to the thoughts of people in Berlin and provide comfort for those in distress. One of the angels becomes human to experience the sensory pleasures he never could as an angel.

The angels in this series started out as photographs from the Glasgow Necropolis taken by Lou. She has added multiple layers to create a rich and sumptious feel and to bring life to the old grey stone and create a feeling of benevolance and warmth.

It certainly looks like this angel is listening to Mackintosh and protecting our Blue Heart Window.
