Rain, rain and more water droplets...

On a wet day what is more inspiring than to stay indoors and play around with your own ‘controlled’ water droplets. All you need is the back of a CD, a water spray and macro lens and some extension tubes. I also used a micro focussing plate as you need to move the whole camera to focus rather than use the focussing ring. I also played about with a lensbaby with an extender but in the end decided to go for an image created with the macro lens at f22 as it gave maximum detail. Oh yes you also need a light source, which can be a window but I was using a rectangular gang of LED lights which give these rather nice concentric spokes when angled on to the back of the CD.

I rather like the way the curved surface of the water droplets created a contrasting band of horizontal stripes. Towards the back of the droplets you can actually see the white lights of the LEDs. I had lots of fun and it is certainly worth seeing LARGE to examine the droplets more closely. The large droplet even has tiny droplets on its surface.
