Ramblings and Mutterings

South Wales IBD Day

World IBD Day may have been a couple of weeks ago, but today was South Wales IBD Day.

First up as Chairman of the South Wales IBD Patient Panel we headed to the Welsh Assembly to hand over our petition to improve IBD Healthcare in Wales to the Petitions Committee. We had over 700 signatories in the end, so hopefully it’s a positive mandate for change and this can make a difference. We had some good discussion with the committee and we invited them to the IBD event that was being held in the assembly in the evening.

To get into the assembly you get searched and go through a metal detector. My car keys were confiscated because of the dangerous walking whistle that I was carrying?!

The evening event was titled IBD Care: Does Wales measure up? and had contributions from patients, clinicians and nurses. The speeches were great, and I was particularly proud of my friend Rachel who gave a very powerful speech on her experiences as a patient. It hit home and if anyone in the room wasn’t aware of how IBD affects people, they certainly got the message at the end.

But this is just the start, we must now ensure our voice is heard and we make a real difference.
